Service Selection Board (SSB), North

Selection Center, North (SCN) at Kapurthala is the latest and the newest SSB for Army to cater to the candidates from Northern region. It was inaugurated by Lt Gen KJ Singh, Army Commander Western Command‬ in presence of military and other important civil dignitaries. The motto of Selection Centre North (SCN) is “Nishpaksh Nihswarth Nissandeh” – which in the English means “to be impartial, without any personal motives and with firm resolve”. The selection process of first batch of 80 aspirants was already started on 01 Apr 16.

The selection centre consists of two Services Selection Boards which will cater to the candidates from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh and even Jammu and Kashmir. However, it is imperative to note that the centre would provisionally function for around three years from Kapurthala military station and thereafter it would be shifted to state of art 200-acre campus at Ropar (near Chandigarh), which is at present under construction.

Origin Of New Selection Center, North (SCN)

It was a long pending demand of Punjab to open a selection centre in the state. The development is also significant because Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab are largest contributors to various officers’ academies of the country every year. To understand it better, one can appreciate the fact that out of 1,237 cadets that passed out from the IMA, Dehradun in 2014 and commissioned as an Army officer, 278 were from Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Chandigarh. This constitutes around 23% of the total cadets who became officers in the year 2014.
