The Officers Training Academy (OTA) is located at Saint Thomas Mount, a suburb of Chennai. It is 18 Kms from Chennai Central Railway Station and 2 Kms from the Chennai (Meenambakkam) Airport. The nearest bus stand is at St. Thomas Mount Post Office, which is on the Grand Southern Trunk (GST) road and is approximately one Km away from OTA.
The shortlisted selected candidates will report to OTA after getting the joining instructions. Successful candidates will travel at their own expense. However they will get the second class fare by the shortest route after reproducing the ticket once they report to the academy.
A Reception Centre will be set up by the Officers training Academy at Chennai Central Railway Station to receive the GCs/LCs coming by trains on the dates intimated to you for reporting. Cadets and their baggage will be conveyed to the Academy by transport provided at the Reception Centre. OTA can be contacted at Telephone No. 25316608 (Adjutant) or Duty Clerk at same number after 1400 hours for assistance and information.
Candidates are also required to submit the medical examination clearance form which they will get after clearing the medical examination after SSB. They are also required to declare in case they get any disease or become medically unfit after medical exam.
Discipline At OTA
After reporting to OTA, you are required to sign some undertaking forms regarding training & your engagement with Indian Army. You will be subjected to the rules governing Indian Army training, military discipline as per rules, regulations and Cadets Standing Orders’ of OTA, as applicable to the cadets. Each cadet will be issued with Cadets Standing Orders on arrival. Cadets Standing Order will essentially contain the Dos & Don’ts while you are at OTA. It consists of an exhaustive list of many things covering the activities related to training & conduct inside & outside the academy.
You are forbidden to bring any of the following with you :-
(a) Dogs or other pets.
(b) Radio Sets, TV Sets, Music System. However, Tape Recorders with low power output are permitted to be kept by GCs at their own risk.
(c) Motor cycles, bicycles or car.
(d) Private Servants.
(e) Wines and spirits.
(f) Articles of value or jewellery.
(g) Any type of weapons/ammunition.
(h) Mobile/Cell Phone.
Although you will be provided free messing and lodging during the complete training period, but you are required to bring in some cash with yourself for initial deposit for some services. The total amount would be around Rs. 12000. Also note that Gentlemen Cadets will be given a cash allowance of Rs. 4000 per month out of their authorized stipend of Rs. 21000 per month. And most important is that the first payment of stipend will be made only after three months of your arrival at OTA. So carry enough cash to meet your casual expenses at least for three months.
